A nationally recognized leader in independent school education, Latin School of Chicago is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to become our next Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications.

Founded in 1888, Latin is one of the oldest and most highly respected independent schools in the city of Chicago. Latin is a coeducational day school that serves 1,190 students in junior kindergarten through 12 grade and features a vibrant community of 179 faculty, 114 staff, and approximately 6,000 living and active alums.

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications plays a key role in supporting Latin’s efforts to enhance the school’s brand awareness, engage stakeholders, and promote the school’s mission and vision. This position assists in developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications initiatives across digital and print platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and effective outreach to current and prospective families, alumni, faculty, staff and the broader community. The role requires strong storytelling abilities, creativity, and collaboration within a fast-paced educational environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and manage compelling content for digital and print communications, including newsletters, websites, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content to ensure consistency in tone, style, and messaging and alignment with the school’s brand.
  • Assist in managing the school’s social media presence, which includes creating and scheduling engaging content across multiple platforms.
  • Assist in managing the school’s website, ensuring content is current, relevant, and visually appealing.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all communication channels and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate on the design and production of marketing materials, including an annual report, admission materials, brochures, flyers, and digital assets.
  • Support the school’s advertising and media relations efforts.
  • Assist in fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Support communication strategies for school events, admissions initiatives, and fundraising efforts.
  • Capture and curate photography and video content to highlight school events, activities and accomplishments.
  • Oversee and maintain a communications project calendar.
  • Assist in managing and updating the school’s calendar, including coordinating and collaborating with various internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with setting and tracking the annual communications budget.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to execute strategic initiatives, and develop and maintain timelines, tasks and the status of all projects.
  • Assist with other marketing, communication, and administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

Qualified candidates will:

  • Possess exceptional storytelling, proofreading, and content creation skills for various audiences and platforms.
  • Have comprehensive experience managing websites, social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) and email marketing campaigns.
  • Be proficient in the use of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) or similar tools for designing marketing materials.
  • Be able to capture, edit, and produce high-quality visual content (photos and video) for digital and print use.
  • Have experience using content management systems (e.g., Finalsite and Blackbaud), marketing technologies and communication tools.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to develop and execute marketing and communication strategies that align with the school’s mission and goals.
  • Be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents/guardians, alumni, trustees and external partners.
  • Be strongly committed to accuracy and consistency in branding, messaging, and design.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in communications, public relations, journalism, website design and management, social media management or a related field.
  • Experience working in education, particularly independent schools, is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to 80,000, not including a comprehensive insurance and benefits package.
